Over the years and across fields, it has never been an easy task to break through the hard and thick skin of any industry. The music industry in Ghana has always been the case of a “godfather or godmother” holding the hands of a younger artiste to reach higher heights which arguably are usually shrouded in myriad controversies.
That notwithstanding, there are cases of young artistes who go out of the norm to push themselves to the top through a steady, progressive and relentless effort geared towards making it in life.
DCITY Music falls within this category of young artistes breaking the odds to get themselves to the top.
Speaking in an interview with Foster Romanus on e.TV Ghana’s The Late Nite Celebrity Show, the Dansoman based duo shared their experience in the industry tabling their stages of growth up until where they are now.
The ‘Konkonsa’ hitmakers blamed their inability to constantly stay afloat in the industry on the lack of funding and none existence of a record label to project their works to the world.
Unanimously, the duo who have been friends for over 15 years and music partners for 8 years agreed that talent alone isn’t enough to succeed in the Ghanaian music space. As a result, artistes are constantly perplexed as to whether to do good quality music or just commercial music which easily flies. The latter is usually the case because it pays the bills.
Speaking on what is their most pressing need, the talented musicians were too quick to appeal for the assistance of a record label to save them from self management which arguably hasn’t been very successful.
DCITY anticipates future collaborations with Tema-based duo, R2bees, Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy among others.
They are set to release their EP in September this year.
