Former Ghana international, Joetex Asamoah-Frimpong, has disclosed that to date, he’s still disappointed about missing out on the Black Stars squad that represented Ghana at the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.
The Former Enyimba FC marksman played for the Black Stars between 2005 and 2009 and was a key member of the team.
However, he missed out on the chance to play in the country’s maiden FIFA World Cup tournament in Germany.
Speaking in an exclusive interview on eT.VGhana’s sports personality show, The Conversation, Joetex revealed that everyone at the time would agree that he deserved to be on the team.
“Even people that were dead believed I’d go to the World Cup, I was consistent throughout the qualifiers. I was disappointed and couldn’t believe and up till now I’m still disappointed”.
Joetex added that, after he was left out of the squad that represented Ghana in Germany, he didn’t want to play for the national team but was convinced by his dad to do so.
The 2006 FIFA World Cup was a significant moment for Ghana, marking the country’s first-ever appearance in the prestigious tournament.
Although the Black Stars achieved an impressive performance, reaching the round of 16 before being eliminated by Brazil, Joetex’s absence left a void in the hearts of fans who believed he deserved to be part of the historic campaign.
Joetex Asamoah-Frimpong however made his Black Stars debut against Burkina Faso in a World Cup qualifier in Ghana.
