Senior Resident doctor at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Nelly Adade, has highlighted on some ways one can guard against Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs).
According to her, when it comes to preventing sexually transmitted infections, one would have to be very cautious.
She told Mercy Bee the ‘Ekumfi Princess’ on e.tv Ghana’s ‘Girl Vibes Show’, “When it comes to STIs, you can’t over emphasis your ‘ABC’s which are to Abstain, Be faithful or use a Condom.”
The health practitioner urged the public to practice safe sex by using condoms or abstain in order not to contract STIs.
“If you don’t know what the person is doing out there and if you don’t know what the person’s plans for you are then abstain. As a young person, you have your life and dreams ahead of you and that is the main message we usually want to preach. Abstain if you can,” she stated.
“Try to be faithful in the relationship, be loyal to each other,” she added.
She furthered that if being faithful can also not work then couples should always use a condom as it is also one way of preventing STIs.
Dr. Nelly highlighted that when it comes to condom usage it’s not just about the male condom but also the female condom which a lot of ladies shy away from, citing it as uncomfortable.
She advised women who feel this way not to compromise for the sake of their health and well-being.
“Finally education, like we are doing, creating awareness. We have to drum it over and over to the public that STI’s are real and if you don’t get it you’ll think it’s a joke so we all need to come together and make this known,” she emphasized.
