Eric Hagen, Vice President of German Shepherd Dog Club of Ghana, has shared the importance of keeping dogs and why they are considered as the best friends of man.
According to him, apart from their harmful side, and their most popular use of being kept for security reasons, there are also quite a number of benefits of owning dogs.
In an interview with Raymond Nyamador on e.TV Ghana’s Men’s lounge, he shared, “Dogs are very important. They protect and provide us companionship. They also have other functions like being used for therapy which a lot of people do not know about.”
He stated that people with certain conditions are mostly assigned trained dogs to assist them manage those conditions.
Citing an example, he shared, “when COVID-19 struck, we had some trained dogs to identify COVID-19 infected cases and the success rate was over 90%.”
Going into details about their use for security, he emphasized, “For security purposes, they are used to sniff cocaine and to identify criminals. There are so many benefits of dogs that we can go on and on about.”
He advised people to treat dogs with care and patience as they could be of so much benefit to them.
