Nchiraa-waterfall still remains undeveloped

The Nchiraa Waterfall in the Wenchi Municipality of the Brong Ahafo Region has seen no development ever since it was discovered in 2004.

The waterfall which is located in a rocky and natural virgin forest is situated a few kilometers from the Nchiraa community.

The Nchirra community with the population of more than 10,000 is a predominantly farming community. Crops such as maize, yams, cassava and vegetables are produced here.

Though visiting the waterfall for the first time is stressful because of the poor nature of the road, it does not deter visitors and tourist to catch a glimpse of the site. Whether tall or short one needs to bend down through the giant and natural carves.

According to the Chairman of the Nchirra Waterfall Local Organising Committee, Emmanuel Obuo Adjei, the fall was discovered in 2004 and since then no development has taken place apart from their Member of Parliament for Wenchi Prof. Gyan-Baffour who donated forty bags of cement to construct summer hats for visitors.

He told e.tv Ghana news that a research team by the Peace Corps Ghana had shown that the Nchiraa waterfalls was the largest in West Africa and could be developed to boost eco-tourism.

He noted that since tourism plays a critical role in national development, there is the need for public-private partnership for the development of the waterfalls.

Mr. Obuo Adjei said if the fall is developed, it will attract both local and international tourists and also serve as a prime source of recreation and income generation for the Municipal Assembly.
