FDB consficates unwholesome rice from Sucatrade
The Food and Drugs Board has consficated large quantities of unwholesome rice belonging to Sucatrade, sole representatives of Tyson Foods Incorporated in Ghana.
The unwholesome Sultana Rice was consficated at the company’s outlet in Kumasi a week after unwholesome chicken belonging to the same company was consficated.
In an exclusive interview with e.tv Ghana, Head of Animal Products and Biosafety Department, Dr Mohammed Alfa, said the FDB acted upon a complaint by a customer who bought rice from Finatrade’s outlet in Kumasi.
He said the rice which has an expiry date of 2014 appeared unfit for human consumption. FDB officials say the unhygienic conditions of the warehouse may have contributed to the damaging of the rice.
The FDB says it will soon announce its laboratory report on the rice and will follow the matter to its logical conclusion.
