Gov't releases GH¢25m to pay school feeding caterers
Caterers under the school feeding programme are to receive payment for their services. Government has released over GH¢25 million cedis for the payment of caterers at all beneficiary districts that have submitted their returns.
The amount will cover a total of one million, one hundred and thirteen thousand, nine hundred and twenty-eight pupils.
The National Co-ordinator of the programme, Seidu Adamu, announced at a stakeholders meeting in Tamale
He expressed disappointment over the inability of about 10 districts to submit their returns since September last year.
According to him the names of the recalcitrant districts have been submitted to the Ministry of Local Government to determine the appropriate sanctions against them.
He, however, indicated that a supplementary budget would be prepared for those districts as and when their returns are received.
The National Co-ordinator also bemoaned the lack of co-operation from some of the districts in the smooth running of the programme.
He urged assemblies and their respective desk officers to be up to their tasks and submit reports regularly.
The four-year programme that is being facilitated by the Netherlands Development Organisation (SNV) is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
The programme, being piloted in 20 districts in the country, is expected to benefit about 10,000 smallholder farmers and 30 percent of women.
It is also to enable them derive increased and stable income through effective participation in the home grown school feeding programme.
