MiDA project expected to be completed by the end of the month
Feverish construction work is underway on the Tetteh Quashie - Mallan Project to meet the deadline for the completion of the project this month.
e.tv Ghana’s Naadi Bitlegma was at the construction site and reports that the deadline may be difficult to meet.
The $165 million project which is being executed under the Millennium Challenge Account is a major transit point for vehicles from the hinterlands to the ports. The project, if completed, is also expected to ease traffic congestion.
The Millennium Challenge compact mandates Ghana to complete the project this month or forfeit the US government funding. The China Railway Wuju Group and the MSF of Portugal the two construction companies handling the project are now working under pressure to meet the deadline. John Benard Koranteng-Yorke of the Millenium Development Authority believes they will meet the deadline.
“According to our programming the contract is supposed to end by January 31, 2012 and we at MiDA are working very seriously to ensure that we meet this deadline because we don’t have any alternative. We have done everything that an employer is supposed to ensure that the contracts are completed within the given time.”
However, some of the construction workers here who spoke off camera expressed skeptism about their ability to meet the deadline. There are still a few areas of the construction work that needs serious attention.
But John Benard Koranteng-Yorke is of the firm belief that the project can be completed within the given time frame. He says they are yet to complete the Awoshie-Kasoa stretch, adding that, the Kaneshie-Kasoa road will also be improved from its current two way carriage road to a three lane dual carriage road.
