Patrons of Accra Mall want security tightened

The ever popular Accra Shopping Mall on the Spintex road is enjoying unprecedented patronage due to the quality of operators such as Game, Shoprite and the Siverbird Cinemas.
However, visitors to the mall have expressed worry over the overcrowding situation which is a major characteristic of the mall during holidays and festive seasons.
Some patrons of the mall who spoke to e.tv Ghana are demanding restriction on the number of visitors in the light of health and safety concerns.
The Accra Mall, introduced four years ago is Ghana’s first World Class Shopping Centre and remains a perfect destination for one-stop shopping and hang-outs during holidays.
The Mall presents convenience and a unique experience of leisure and entertainment among others. With an open style internet cafe, the Silverbird cinema, six restaurants and a large food shop, one cannot ask for more than to shop in this world class mall.
Perhaps it is this convenience and class presented by the Mall which continues to attract people from all walks of life to patronize services provided in it.
During the just ended Christmas festivities the Accra Mall was flooded with more people than it could hold, posing both health and safety risks to visitors.
Observations made by e.tv Ghana revealed that most of the patrons of the mall are window shoppers who actually don’t buy anything than to gallivant in the mall for the fun of it.
The situation has contributed to overcrowding of the place, putting immense pressure on the facility. So what measures are authorities putting in place to avert the recurrence of the situation?
However, efforts to contact the managers of the mall to respond to the situation proved futile. But the point remained clear that imposing restrictions on visitors would perhaps be an impossible task to accomplish.
That notwithstanding, the pressure being mounted on the mall and the complaints being made by shoppers creates a window of opportunity for investors to consider building a similar shopping mall of a larger capacity in the country.
