CEO of Zoomlion voted the most influential Ghanaian of 2011

Mr Joseph Siaw Agyepong, CEO of Zoomlion Ltd, has topped a poll of e.tv Ghana viewers to emerge as the most influential Ghanaian of 2011.

He came in ahead of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II (#2), Prince Kofi Amoabeng (#3, CEO of UT Bank), Dr. Mensah Otabil (#4, Head Pastor of the International Central Gospel Church) and investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas (#5).

In a poll featuring a range of public figures associated with politics, sport, entertainment, religion and enterprise, the businessman Joseph Siaw Agyepong’s contribution to ameliorating the effective disposal of waste in the country made him the preferred choice of well-meaning Ghanaians resulting in him finishing ahead of 99 other well-respected Ghanaians.

Last year’s winner, Cardinal Peter Turkson, slipped in the rankings to appear 6th in the list. Interestingly, the current president John Atta Mills appeared in 9th sandwiched between two former presidents (behind John Jerry Rawlings (#7) and ahead of John Kufuor (#11)) and only marginally ahead of his vice who took the 15th place on the list.

Other personalities who made the 100 list included former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines and Founder of the Salt and Light Ministry, Dr Joyce Aryee. She was the highest ranked female ranking 19th.

The upper echelons of the chart are dominated by politicians, religious leaders and businessmen whereas sports personalities and entertainment professionals generally appeared lower down in the influence rankings.

The Executive Chairman and Co-founder of Databank Financial Services Limited, Mr Ken Ofori-Atta was ranked 9th whilst the CEO of Ernest Chemist, Mr Ernest Bediako Sampong was ranked 23rd.

Dr Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, former Director of the Cardiothoracic Center at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital made the 37th position, President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwasi Nyantakyi,  made the 49th position and Comedian Funny Face was ranked 75th among the 100 Most Influential Ghanaians for the year 2011.
