MTN Foundation gives to Christmas babies in Korle Bu
Some 28 babies born on Christmas day at the Korle Bu Teaching hospital were host to executives of the MTN foundation during which the charity wing of the mobile operator presented hampers to the babies and their mothers.
The biggest among the 28 children was a baby girl who weighed five kilos. In all 16 females and 12 males were born on the festive day. The joy of the mothers was made complete when MTN foundation presented hampers to them on Boxing Day.
The presentation forms part of 150 pieces of hampers valued at GHS 12,000 which the Foundation gave to babies born on 25th December at three government hospitals in the country.
The hampers were nicknamed: “Yellow hampers,” and contained assorted baby diapers, baby wipes, baby clothing, toiletries and toys. The hospital expresses joy at the gesture and said the items would go a long way to relieve the increasing number of mothers who came to deliver without bringing along the necessary items.
Similar gestures were extended to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in the Ashanti Region and the Effia Nkwanta Hospital in the Western Region.
Madam Gladys Adu-Nyame, who took the team round for the distribution expressed happiness that the items had come on such occasion since most of the mothers, particularly, adolescent’s mothers, came to deliver without bringing along any clothing.
Mr Robert Kuzoe, Executive Secretary, MTN Foundation who led members of the MTN Ghana Employee Volunteer Association to donate the items to the babies through their mothers said the gesture was to show MTN’s commitment and care to the society.
He said “MTN is committed to celebrating with mothers who have successfully delivered on festive season like Christmas.
“Indeed we see this day as a very special day and children born on this day are very special and that is why we are here to visit them. We are so excited to see mothers and their babies doing so well and we take pride in the fact that we have succeeded in putting smiles on the faces of these mothers at this special period of the year”, Mr Kuzoe indicated.
The foundation has already adopted the second floor of the maternity block at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and is currently helping to renovate the maternity ward of the Effia Nkwanta hospital in the Western Region.
