Passengers warned to be wary of taxi drivers during the festive season
e.tv Ghana news has uncovered a scheme by taxi drivers that delivers information about their passengers to criminals who in-turn rob them at gun point.
Some of the drivers allegedly connive with armed robbers to rob visitors arriving at the Kotoka International airport.
The Commanding Officer of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service, ACP Awuni Angwubutoge who confirmed this to e.tv Ghana new is cautioning passengers to be weary of taxi drivers and Okada riders as Christmas approaches.
The festive seasons have become a peak season for armed robbery as some passengers at the Kotoka international Airport (KIA) have fallen victim to taxi drivers who are in league with armed robbers to rob them of their luggage.
The police have arrested some of these criminals in the past few days and also report that motor cycle riders popularly called Okada are frequently involved in armed robbery.
ACP Awuni is warning passengers to be on the alert as the criminals are on rampage to cash in on the festive season.
The police want individuals to be each other’s keeper and report any incidents of armed robbery.
