90 suspected criminals rounded up in security operation
More than 90 residents of Sahara, a slum at Adabraka in Accra, were yesterday arrested in a joint military and police operation for their alleged involvement in various criminal activities. The swoop, which lasted about an hour, was the second of its kind.
According to the acting Director of Police Public Affairs, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Cephas Arthur, the suspects would be screened and those found culpable arraigned before the law courts.
He said the swoop was part of a special operation to enhance safety and security during the Christmas and New Year festivities.
On Tuesday, the Police Administration launched an operation to enhance safety and security during the Christmas and New Year festivities.
Under the operation, which was on the theme, “Increased Police Presence”, more policemen are to be deployed in the streets and communities, while night and highway patrols would also be intensified to beef up security within the period.
In line with that, all policemen who are on their annual leave have been recalled, while those yet to go have had their leave suspended until the end of the festivities.
