Four people confirmed dead on Kumasi-Obuasi highway
Four people have been confirmed dead and four more in critical condition in the tragic road accident which occurred around 6 a.m this morning at Pakyi Number One near Kumasi on the Obuasi Highway.
About 36 passengers who sustained various degree of injuries are also receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi.
The Ashanti Regional Police Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) DSP G.D. Hlordzi confirmed the death toll.
The accident involved a 23-seater American Ford and a 33-seater Benz bus which crashed in a head-on collision.
The benz bus was said to be travelling from Manso in the Ashanti region to Obuasi, whilst the Ford was heading towards Kumasi.
An eyewitness to the accident told Peace fm's Ashanti regional correspondent that the driver of the Ford bus tried overtaking a private car but veered into the lane of the on-coming Mercedez-benz bus, which was also trying to avoid running into another vehicle which had parked by the roadside to pick passengers.
According to the eyewitness more of the dead were sent to the hospital including the injured before the police and fire service personnel got to the scene.
