Ghana to start online acquisition of driver's licence
The Minister of Transport, Collins Dauda, has hinted that Ghanaians will soon be able to acquire their driver’s licences through the internet.
According to the minister, this will materialise once the automation services at the Driver Vehicle and Licensing Authority (DVLA) offices across the country are launched.
The minister’s comments come months after some 3,000 fake driver’s licences were confiscated by DVLA officials in Accra.
He noted that the current situation could be attributed to the cumbersome procedures involved in the acquisition of licences.
Hon. Dauda also added that the new system will help ease the licence-acquisition process. He said, “we are introducing systems that would make acquisition of driving licences very easy.”
“You can even sit in the comfort of your room and get a licence by getting it online. If we perfect this system I believe that people would not have to go to the DVLA premises to look for licences to be accosted by the ‘goro’ boys," Hon. Dauda added.
He also hinted that the Ghana Parliament is set to pass the revised road traffic regulations.
