Lab technician faces trial for faking HIV results
A 32 year old Laboratory Technician is facing trial at an Accra High Court for faking an HIV and AIDS lab report.
The accused person, Prosper Felli, a staff of the Odawna HIV Counseling and Testing Center has been charged with fraud by false pretense.
According to the police, Prosper had demanded 400 Ghana cedis from Emelia Owiredu to alter her HIV test results which he claimed was positive.
Emelia was compelled to take the test as part of a job requirement from waste management company, Zoomlion.
However, luck run out on Prosper when Emelia put her agony behind her to take another test in a different hospital which proved on three occasions that she was not positive as earlier claimed by the accused person.
She quickly alerted the police who picked him up for questioning. He later confessed to have lied about the result in order to receive the bribe.
Investigations are still on-going to establish if Felli’s action is a syndicated practice which could lead to the arrest of other health practitioners at the Odawna Clinic.
