ECG starts load shedding
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has been forced to initiate a load shedding exercise in some parts of the country as the Volta River Authority continues with efforts to fix the challenges it is facing with one of the breakers in its switch room.
The breaker exploded on Wednesday night resulting in a nationwide blackout. A similar incident occurred last night and some areas are still without power, according to the ECG.
The Head of Operations for the ECG, Tetteh Okine told Citi News, ECG is losing a lot of revenue due to the problems confronting the VRA.
“We are still trying to get things back to normal and since then I have not got the latest information on the problem,” he said. “Once they (VRA) cannot generate power we cannot also distribute to our customers. They have even asked us to go down by 150 megawatts. ”
