Man butchers girlfriend to death and commits suicide
Residents of Boleso, a village near Atronie in Sunyani Municipality, on Tuesday evening witnessed a gruesome murder when a 28-year-old farmer butchered his girl friend to death.
Kwabena Donkor, after slaughtering Gloria Akua Nsiah, 25, also a farmer, shot himself dead on a cassava farm behind his house.
Superintendent of Police Maxwell Osei, Sunyani Municipal Police Commander, told the Ghana News Agency that Donkor lived with his late lover for about two years at Boleso.
Three weeks ago Donkor picked a quarrel with Akua on suspicion of her infidelity so she left to stay with her parents in the same village.
Mr Osei said on December 6, Donkor saw his late lover on her way to the farm and followed her. He snatched a cutlass Akua was holding and slashed her as she shouted for help but Donkor dared anyone to come to her aid.
The Police commander said Donkor rushed to his room and brought out a locally manufactured pistol threatening to shoot anyone who dared to save Akua whose mother, Adwoa Manu, aged 60, rushed to the scene and attempted to disarm Donkor.
Donkor over-powered the mother and shot her and she fell to the ground. Donkor roamed the village with the gun but was later found to have shot himself in the cassava garden behind his house, he said.
The police commander said the residents took the bodies of Donkor and his girl friend to the regional hospital mortuary in Sunyani, whilst Akua’s mother is responding to treatment at the same hospital.
