Police administration apologises to KATH
The Police Administration officially apologised to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for the unprovoked attack by five policemen on medical officers, nurses and security men of the health facility.
The IGP, through a letter, gave the assurance to conduct thorough investigations which led to the assault.
The apology letter was sent through the Ashanti Regional Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Patrick E. Timbillah.
Last Saturday, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Adjei Nimo allegedly organized five policemen in mufti to beat up medical officers workers on duty at the hospital’s emergency wards.
At about 2 PM, DSP Nimo and the five policemen allegedly invaded the Accident and Emergency Ward of KATH and assaulted medical officers on duty in their attempt to arrest a security guard who had allegedly confronted them.
They also allegedly attacked a security guard, identified as Eric Kankam, who was on duty at the Barracks gate, tearing his uniform into shreds and leaving him with bruises and swollen cheeks.
Their action caused the medical officers on duty to abandon patients who were receiving emergency medical care, leading to the death of a 38-year-old woman.
