Ghana AIDS Commission to adopt innovative ways of generating funds
The Ghana Aids Commission has been urged to adopt innovative ways of generating funds to fight against HIV/AIDS.
At the Commission’s funding partnership forum, Vice President John Dramani Mahama expressed government’s commitment to increase support in the fight against the Disease but urged the commission to also complement that effort.
The partnership forum and the business meeting discussed progress made last year and validated the National Strategic Plan for the next three years.
Development Partners and experts deliberated on key issues to further fight against the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
Ghana currently is faced with HIV funding challenges as the Global Fund withdrew its support to the country’s fight against HIV.
The Global Fund to fight HIV/AIDS has since 2005 been contributing about seventy percent of Ghana’s anti-HIV programmes.
Vice President John Dramani Mahama, commended the continuous support of partners to the national response in the light of dwindling global resources and urged the commission to adopt innovative ways of generating funds.
He that that government will continue to work with the Ghana Aids Commission to ensure that there is efficiency and some predictability in resource allocation.
Experts agreed that the Ghana Aids Commission in collaboration with the health sector will facilitate the integration of HIV with maternal and child Health, sexual reproductive health and family planning interventions. One of the key challenges of the Commission is how to generate fund to continue the fight against Aids.
