"Exercise Pataku 2011" to take off at Kotoka
The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has launched a full scale security related exercise which is due to take place at the Kotoka International Airport on November 30.
The GACL which confirmed the drill says the exercise will disrupt the normal flow of business at the airport.
Code named “EXERCISE PATAKU 2011”, the exercise will simulate an act of unlawful interference with operations and the facilities at the Airport and the subsequent response by the Security Agencies in the Country.
The exercise is in compliance with the Ghana Civil Aviation Regulations LI 1824 and the International Civil Aviation Organization Annex 17 Standard 5.1.4.
The exercise is aimed at evaluating the state of readiness of the Ghana Airports Company Ltd and the country as a whole in dealing with an act of unlawful interference at the Airport and its related facilities.
The security related exercise will involve personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Police Force, Ghana Immigration Services, Ghana Revenue Authority, Customs Division, National Security, Narcotics Control Board, Ghana Civil Aviation Authority and Ghana Airports Company Ltd.
The GACL in a statement assured the general public that though the Airport may be cordoned off for the duration of the exercise, normalcy would be restored at the earliest convenience.
