Korle Bu denies corruption allegations

Allegations of looting and corruption being made by the dismissed Director of Administration, Nelson Menorkpor and some disgruntled board members of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital have been denied by the management of the hospital.

The hospital has also denied the allegations of assault meted out to some journalists who dashed in to the hospital’s premises to get clarifications on the issue.

The dismissed director of administration and some members of the board of the hospital told the media that all efforts were being made by the CEO and Board Chairman to remove him (director of administration) because they (CEO and Board Chairman) claimed he (director of administration) was an obstacle to alleged looting and corruption being perpetrated by the two personalities and their allies.

The deposed Director of Administration had quoted a 2010 audit report which raised several acts of impropriety at the procurement department of the hospital but not against the CEO or board chairman directly. A copy of the audit report is in the custody of e.tv Ghana.

The embattled Director also alleged that some journalists who had gone to the hospital to enquire about the rift had been assaulted on the orders of the CEO, Nii Otu Nartey.

But after studying the allegations in the media the hospital has denied them. Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Mustapha Salifu says their doors are open for any kind of investigation and audit into their operations. He also called for those perpetuating the allegations to provide evidence to that effect.  He also denied allegations of assault on media men who had rushed to the hospital to seek clarification on the matter.

However one of the journalists, Henry Addo insists he and his colleagues who turned up at the CEO’s office to enquire into the matter were assaulted by five security men of the hospital on the orders of the CEO.

Mr. Addo has reported the matter to the police after obtaining medical care from the hospital. He claims he was attacked by five security men of the hospital.

In a statement the hospital assures the public that the allegations of tension being speculated in the media are untrue and would not hinder their focus of providing affordable healthcare of the highest quality to Ghanaians.
