Management of Korle Bu assures public of general calmness at the hospital
The Board and Management of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital wish to assure the general public there is no tension or any disturbance in the hospital as being speculated in sections of the media.
According to a statement issued by the board and management of the hospital, the so called tension emanated from the fact that five Directors were appointed subject to one-year probation by the Board of the Hospital in consultation with the Public Services Commission.
However, towards the end of the probation period (May 2011) the Board requested and the afore-said Directors submitted themselves to a performance review by the Board. Accordingly, after the review, the Board found that the Director of Administration’s performance was unsatisfactory and thus revoked his appointment on September 2, 2011.
The statement further explained that, unsatisfied with the action taken against him, the affected Director instituted an action at an Accra High Court, challenging the Board’s decision and filed a motion for an injunction to restrain the Board from interfering with his work as Director of Administration pending the determination of the suit. However, the motion has since been dismissed by the Accra High Court on Friday, November 4, 2011.
According to the statement, in view of the court’s ruling and to further the smooth operation of the hospital, the said Director was subsequently asked to hand over to the Deputy Director of Administration to act pending the determination of the substantive suit by the Court.
The Board and Management of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, therefore want to assure the general public that the Hospital is still running smoothly and patients, staff as well as visitors are going about their normal business.
