Mallam-Tetteh Quarshie road to be completed January 2012
The Tetteh Quarshie-Mallam road is expected to be ready by January 2012. Work on the six-lane, 14-kilometre highway, which is currently under construction is funded by the Millennium Challenge Account.
According to the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA) , the project will be completed ahead of the February 16, 2012 deadline.
Public Relations Officer of MiDA, Major retired Don Chebe told Citi News “for anyone who has driven on the Tetteh Quashie-Apenkwa stretch, you can see it is almost done."
"The contractor is doing finishing touches. All the other stretch from Apenkwa all the way to Tetteh Quashie has been done."
Don Chebe added that, "It is purely putting together finishing touches, doing pavements, overhead foot bridges and then also compacting the bed in the middle between the two road surfaces. ”
The 14. 1 km highway when completed would be re-christened the George Walker Bush Motorway, the immediate past American President, George Bush, during whose tenure the Millennium Challenge Account compact was secured by Ghana.
Sixteen countries initially pitched for funding from the Millennium Challenge Corporation and Ghana was among the nine nations selected to benefit from the Corporation’s account and received the largest chunk of the $2. 1 billion available to the nine countries.
