GIS celebrates Equality and Diversity Day
The United Nations (UN) Resident Co-ordinator to Ghana, Ruby Sandhu-Rojo, has urged governments around the world to stand up for diversity and fight racial discrimination.
This, she said, is particularly important since the world is increasingly becoming a diverse, interconnected and interdependent society.
She made the call when she addressed students of the Ghana International School on the GIS/UN Day in Accra.
The GIS/UN Day dubbed: “Equality, Respecting Our Diversity,” was used to celebrate the rich diversity the school has enjoyed over the years.
The Day was a special platform for students from fifty-eight different nationalities to get acquainted with each other and display the rich cultures and customs of the various countries they represented.
The Acting Principal, David Arku noted that since the establishment of the school in 1955, it had enjoyed tremendous unity and oneness among its students and teachers who came from every continent.
The UN Resident Coordinator to Ghana Ruby Sandhu-Rojo lauded this initiative of the school and said by eliminating prejudice and discrimination, GIS could ensure a fair environment which gave all students an equal opportunity to use their talents and develop their skills.
