Miss Ghana 2010 brings smiles to children of Sodom and Gomorrah
Many Ghanaians consider beauty pageants as an unnecessary display of women’s body parts and hence want them scrapped. Many have even heaped pressure on sponsors of the various beauty pageants to redirect the resources to more development oriented programmes.
However, one beauty queen is disproving the validity of these perceptions and giving real meaning to pageants. Miss Ghana 2010, Stephanie Karikari, has brought relief to Children of Sodom & Gomorrah, Ghana’s biggest slum located in the heart of the capital, who hitherto studied in very degrading conditions. Until recently, the main day-care centre at the slum was unfit for human habitation.
Help, however, has finally come the way of children at the centre after e.tv Ghana’s extensive exposure of the plight of the children in the slum. With the aid from corporate Ghana, Miss Karikari, has managed to raise funds to upgrade the facility to modern standards.
Supporting companies included Melcom Care, Café Launge and Auto plaza. She was also supported by residents in the community to successfully complete the project. The community is, therefore, thankful to the beauty queen for the kind gesture.
