GIPMA confers a doctorate degree on Goodluck Jonathan
GIMPA has conferred an honorary doctorate degree on the chairman of the Economic Communities of West African States (ECOWAS) and president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
This happened during his two day visit to Ghana. President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan was given a befitting welcome to Ghana by president John Evans Atta Mills with a state banquet.
The Nigerian President, during his two day visit, held closed door meetings with Ghana’s president, discussing a wide range of issues including the strengthening of ECOWAS, bilateral trade between Ghana and Nigeria as well as finding solutions to the myriad of problems confronting the African Continent.
The Nigerian president also joined the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration in the celebration of its golden jubilee where an honorary doctorate degree was conferred on him for being an outstanding and visionary public servant.
President Goodluck Jonathan commended the school for setting the pace in academic excellence and observed that in the next fifty years about 50% of GIMPA’s students will come from different African countries.
For ECOWAS to grow, the ECOWAS chairman is of the view that a strong police force must be build to curtail illegal activities that pose great risk to humanity.
President John Evans Attah Mills pledged his unflinching support to the ECOWAS chairman to reinforce West African States. He called for the intensification of ECOWAS protocol on free trade and movement of people to help Ghana check activities of Fulani Herdsmen who pose great danger to the people.
Briefing press men at the Kotoka International Airport, before the departure of president Goodluck Jonathan, the two Presidents indicated that enhancing free trade would bring enormous benefits to West African sub region.
President Jonathan was accompanied by Nigerian top government officials including Senator Andy Uba, Honourable Ibrahim El-Sudi, Minister of Foreign Affairs Olugbenga Ashiru, Minister of Information Mr. Labaran Maku, and Dr Olusegun Aganga, Minister of Trade and Investment.
