Officials of the Volta River Authority (VRA) have announced a power rationing exercise expected to hit parts of the country from Monday, February 20, 2012 and is expected to persist for at least a month.
The exercise follows a revised gas supply schedule which has led to limited gas supply from Nigeria. The gas is needed to fuel the Aboadze thermal plant to provide electricity for domestic and commercial use.
The load shedding is to begin from 6:00 pm- 10:00 pm each day
A release by the Public Relations Officer of the VRA, Gloria Dua Sakyi indicated that places such as the Peduase Lodge, Aduagyiri, School for the deaf, Noble House, Adeiso, Sakaman, Gbawe, Tantra Hill, Accra High School, Alisa Hotel and Bosomase would be affected by the exercise.
The rest include Club 250, BNI, Darkuman, South Odorkor, Malam, Pokuase Estate, Central Police Station, parts of South Ofankor, Kwashieman, Alioma, Nayak, Ashfoam, Adabraka Freetown, Sahara, parts of Dansoman, parts of Awoshie and ACP Roofing tile factory.
Confirming the new development, VRA’s Chief Executive, Kweku Awortwi, explained that frantic efforts were being made to normalize the situation, including running the machines on crude.
