Group wants N1 Highway named after Dr Paa Kwasi Nduom
Accra, Feb. 15, 2012
A group calling itself the Concerned Youth of Ghana has kicked against the official name of the NI highway – George Walker Bush Motorway – and has proposed “Adwuma Wura Highway” instead in honour of Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom’s role in securing the project.
The group is picketing at the Mallam Junction where the President John Evans Atta Mills, is expected to commission the new highway stretching from the Tetteh-Quarshie interchange to the Mallam Junction.
The disgruntled group said Dr. Nduom played a crucial role in sourcing for funds for the motorway and believes the time has come to christen it after him hence the name “Adwuma Wura” highway-hard worker.
Former President J. A Kufuor and Dr. Nduom will be joining President Mills at the commissioning today.
Dr. Nduom, who was the 2008 flagbearer of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), served as Minister of Public Sector during the Kufuor administration and is touted as the key person who aided Ghana to secure the $547 million under the Millennium Challenge Account for the NI Highway.
