Police seek assistance to trace wounded armed robbers

police

Accra Feb. 13. 2012

The Ghana Police Service is calling on the general public and all medical centres and facilities around the country to be on the lookout for persons with suspected gunshot wounds.

This was contained in a statement released by the police following the death of a police officer in Kasoa when he and his colleagues attempted to arrest a suspected armed robber within the area.

Three other Police personnel are in critical conditions at the Police Hospital in Accra following the gunshot exchanges.

According to the statement signed by Cpl. Bright Kwabena Danso of the Public Affairs Unit of the service, preliminary investigations indicate that the Weija Police had gone to the scene in their usual patrols, in response to the recent spate of robberies, when they had a hint about the hideout of a suspected robber. The gang however shot at the police when the police got to the house to effect the robbers’ arrest.

They are however assuring the public that they will not be deterred by this criminal act, adding that the police will rather be spurred on to discharge their mandate of providing internal security without fear or favor.
