Corporate organisations join road safety crusade
Corporate organizations around the world are beginning to respond to the United Nation’s decade of action for road safety.
The UN declared the decade in an effort to tackle the rising deaths resulting from road accidents.
Road traffic crashes kill 1.2 million people and injure up to 50 million each year.
The World Bank estimates that road traffic crashes could become the fourth or fifth leading cause of death in low - and middle-income countries by 2030.
Aside the explosive growth in the number of vehicles on the roads lately, lack of appropriate servicing methods has in itself made the roads more dangerous.
To this end, Vulco has stepped in to help save some lives.
In Ghana Vulco has deployed the latest technology in addressing vehicle defects that normally cause accidents.
The company provides free diagnosis and advice prior to servicing and has also put in place reward systems to encourage vehicle owners to avoid the use of outdated methods in diagnosing their vehicle problems.
The resolution on road safety requests UN member states to implement road safety activities, particularly in the areas of road safety management, road infrastructure, vehicle safety and road user behaviour.
They are also invited to set their own national road traffic casualty reduction targets to be achieved by the end of the Decade, in line with the Plan of Action.
