"Woyome saga will not rest until..."-Dr Abu Sakara
A flagbearer aspirant of the Conventions People’s Party (CPP) is demanding some acceptance of guilt by government in the raging Woyome controversy.
Dr. Abu Sakara believes no amount of house-cleaning can bring the Woyome scandal to rest unless someone accepts some responsibility for the mix-up.
In an interview with e.tv Ghana news, he noted that the case will only rest if the highest level of government admits to what went wrong.
Alfred Agbesi Woyome, the NDC financier and business man succeeded in winning a whopping GHC52 million from the state. His beef was that he had led Watervile - an expatriate construction
firm to win contract bid for the construction of Stadia for the 2008 African Cup of nations.
The aftermath of the payment of judgment debt to Mr Woyome is a lasting controversy due to the quantum of money involved.
The CPP has particularly not taken a keen interest in the issues over the period. However, running mate in the 2008 elections and now a contender for the Presidential slot, Dr. Abu Sakara has joined the debate.
He says, “Everyone is concerned because in their hearts they feel that the responsibility has to rest somewhere. Too many people are claiming innocence when obviously something significant in the system has gone wrong because the checks and balances did not work. We undertake certain decisions without even considering the impact on the country. That responsibility obviously has to rest somewhere.”
“And I think this saga will only find rest when at the highest level of government we get some admission of what went wrong before we see the corrective measures being taken into satisfactory. But if there is no admission of what went wrong no amount of corrective measures will satisfy the people,” Dr Sakara said.
