Irate youth threaten to stop NDC Volta Regional primaries

Irate youth in the Volta Region are demanding a suspension of the NDC parliamentary primaries scheduled to take place this weekend.

Their beef is that eligible candidates for Saturday’s polls are unfit to represent the region in parliament. They claim that the Volta Region has not benefited in terms of development.

This situation is in spite of the region’s unflinching support for the ruling NDC.

According to them the Volta Region receives very little interventions from government to address development needs.

They believe a new breed of political leaders must be allowed to turn their fortunes around. However, that effort has been thwarted by the region’s favorite party.

They are angry that all fifteen young people who showed interest in the NDC parliamentary primaries were disqualified. The regional executives were under the spotlight for bribery and intimidation in protecting the interest of incumbent MPs.

President of the Volta Youth Network, Mathias Johnson at a press conference said most of the Volta Regional MPs continue to manipulate the party’s structures to entrench themselves in office often using tactics of bribery, intimidation and harassment of the youth who dared to contest the status quo.

The Youth Network has threatened to campaign against the ruling NDC during the General Elections.
