CPP's Dr Nduom assumes back bench role
The Convention People’s Party’s (CPP) Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom is assuming a back bench role in the party with immediate effect. It follows criticisms that he is the architect behind groups that are exerting pressure on the party’s leadership to hold a national delegates congress to elect a flag bearer ahead of the 2012 general elections.
The 2008 flag bearer who is aspiring to again lead the party into next year’s elections is uncomfortable with the criticisms and threats of expulsion and hence retiring from front role activities until further notice.
Dr. Ndoum’s new position was announced by the youth for Ndoum 2012 exploratory committee. The committee announced that to create a level playing field for all presidential aspirants, Dr. Ndoum will stop all campaigns and regular activities with the regional and constituency executives of the CPP.
Apart from that Dr. Nduom will also speak from a personal perspective all the time. The committee revealed on behalf of Dr. Nduom that considering the fact that more than 93 per cent of people who voted in the past three elections did not vote for CPP.
According to the youth group, Dr. Ndoum will focus his attention on organizing campaign supporters and volunteers outside the CPP who can help attract votes for the party.
Although Dr Ndoum has recently been at the centre of debates with threats of expulsion from the CPP for breaching the party’s rules, he is advising his supporters inside and outside the party to respect the CPP leadership and exhibit tolerance in responding to issues raised by his opponents within and outside the party.
