Ben Ephson calls for investment in political party agents towards 2012 elections
Editor of the Daily Dispatch newspaper and pollster Ben Ephson, has waded into the raging controversy over biometric verification being demanded by a section of the Ghanaian society.
He’s calling on the Electoral Commission to use the funds allocated for the verification process to train political party agents to ensure they understand the electoral processes during the 2012 elections.
He says if the EC will spend 80 million Ghana cedis on biometric registration, it might as well spend 30 million to do verification.
“But I must warn that we can have both of these two instruments and this country will go to the docks with electoral violence. The essence of biometric is to reduce double voter registration. With about 120 million Ghana cedis already in the fund, I think part of it should be given to the political parties to train their agents to ensure vigilance,” he stresses.
