Ade Coker sets "disqualification" records straight
The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ade Coker, has expressed as unfortunate the use of foul language by some candidates who are vying for parliamentary seats both inside and outside of the region.
His statement follows comments made by some contesting members who he says were not disqualified but "recommended” based on some requirements to run for the party’s upcoming parliamentary primaries in the Greater Accra and Northern Regions respectively.
Mr Ade Coker was speaking on e.tv Ghana’s Awake morning show to clarify the reports which had been published by some media houses that Ras Mubarak and Andrew Okai Koi had been disqualified from running in the parliamentary primaries.
He explained that the two candidates had not been disqualified based on personal sentiments. Rather, he said there was the need to get parameters right in order for the party to win the seats, which he termed as “orphans”, in the upcoming general elections.
Mr Coker further explained that the recommendations were made by the Regional Chairmen to the National Chair, who would endorse the various candidates.
However, he said he was not going to give any reason why some people were recommended and why others were not, but insisted that they were not on personal grounds.
In another telephone interview with host Rashida Nasamu, Ras Mubarak, one of these so-called “disqualified” candidates asserted that he had not been disqualified and questioned the power of the Regional Chairman to “disqualify” candidates from the parliamentary primaries.
He said he was currently preparing his campaign. He also expressed as unfortunate and shameful that some media outlets were linking his “disqualification” to his constant criticisms of the NDC government.
