Minority mourn for Ghana at State of the Nation Address

black parliamentAccra, Feb. 17, 2012

Minority members in parliament yesterday were clad in black and red attire when President John Evans Atta Mills’ presented his fourth State of the Nation Address to Parliament.

This was in direct reverse of the usual Kente cloth that dominates special events such as the state of the nation’s address.

The minority’s explanation for their uniformity, however, was that, the country was bleeding under the NDC administration.

Members of the minority said they were not happy with the way the NDC administration was running the country and therefore expressed sadness at the state of the nation currently.

“We are really mourning for Ghana and I need to put my hands on my head because Ghana is really bleeding,” MP for Tarkwa Nsuaem, Gifty Eugenia Kusi said in an interview with e.tv Ghana news.

The Minority members also expressed disappointment with the president’s address, saying, it did not paint a true picture of the condition of the nation.

“He did not tell us one policy measure. It is a shame! I’m sorry but I have to say it. If you want to fight corruption, you have to do it with policy measures. If you want to fight cocaine, you have to fight it with policy measures. And these policy measures, for example, no bail, and other measures that we all know were presented by President Kufuor. President Mills has not added one policy measure,” Second Deputy Speaker and MP for Dome-Kwabenya, Mike Ocquaye also noted.

Whilst the minority is aggrieved with the president’s message, majority members feel President Mills has significantly transformed the economy.
