Korle Bu takes delivery of new operating equipment

Five new emergency operating theatre modules worth 90,000 euros has been presented to the Anaesthesia Department of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

Tullow Ghana Limited which made the presentation, is also financing the initial set and training, servicing and refresher training after 12 and 24 months, and the cost of spare-parts at an estimated additional cost of €10,000.

The emergency operating module comprises Glostavent, a suction machine, vital signs patient monitor and a back-up portable anaesthetic machine.

Chief Executive Officer of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Professor Nii Otu Nartey, expressed his appreciation to Tullow for procuring the equipments to support the department. He indicated the equipments will be put to good use and well-maintained.

President and General Manager of Tullow Ghana, Mr. Dai Jones, said Tullow is convicted that providing the equipment will enable the hospital see an immediate and significant impact on health-care delivery.

He added that the donation was in response to a request from the Department of Anaesthesia for the support of the company in acquiring anaesthetic equipment and indicated that Tullow will continue to support the centre and other such initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of members of the community in which the company operates.

The hospital recently suspended all surgery and handled only urgent and emergency operations in some vital areas. Some emergency surgeries were either delayed or referred to other hospitals due to the lack of capacity in the department.
