Cozying during the festive season; how safe are our beaches?
As the clock ticks towards the festive season it won’t be surprising if you find people making plans to visit that your favorite beach.
But wait a minute, in as much as the beach is a place having fun, it can also be a dangerous ground if the necessary precautions are not taken. So ahead of the festivities e.tv Ghana news finds out what safety measures are in place at the various beaches.
Christmas is celebrated throughout the world by both large and small Christian communities. Usually during this period, fun-lovers who wish to relax find beaches a perfect place to unwind the stress of the year.
And Accra, the capital of Ghana has a lot to offer. The city’s coastline that houses numerous beaches is the most vibrant place during any festive season, of which Christmas is not an exception.
Instead of the holidays being a joyous day and of course a day to relax from stress, it sometimes turn out to be a sad day, as there are always reports of lives lost at the beaches due to poor safety precautions. So what safety measures are being put in place to ensure maximum safety of beachesahead of the Christmas season?
The authorities at the beach believe they have put adequate measures in place to forestall any eventualities such as stampede and drowning. These include life boats, safety signage and the training of lifeguards. But as e.tv Ghana finds out that alcohol could pose a serious risk to safety at the beaches.
Despite this danger preparations are feverishly underway to supply enough alcohol to revelers at the beach.
There is therefore the need for the Ghana Tourist Authority to ensure that restrictions on alcohol use are imposed at beaches to limit the eventualities that happen during festive seasons.
So as you unwind at your favorite beach during this Christmas, drive safe, swim safe and make your safety a priority.
