Prostitution: a seeming gold mine

We often hear of prostitution and how poverty and lack of jobs push young ladies into the trade. These stories seem far from us.

Now e.tv Ghana news’ Fati Shaibu-Ali went undercover, posing as a prostitute to bring you the real story.

The plan was for me to pose as one of them. This was to gain me exclusive access to the prostitutes and some of their clients. So I got the make-up artiste to help me look the part. At 10pm I was ready to go make some money. My crew and I got to Madina at about 10:30pm and business was already in session.

In less than 2 minutes I got noticed. My first client who really sent shivers down my spine was a taxi driver. This is what ensued between us.

Taxi Driver: “Maame, how are you?

Reporter: I’m fine.

Taxi Driver: How is business?

Reporter: Fine.

Taxi Driver: “Sit in the car and let’s have a conversation”.

Taxi Driver: “How much would u take for a short time?”

Reporter: “20 Ghana cedis”

Taxi Driver: “Why are you angry or is it because you are beautiful? My penis is not that big, the penis is small so how can you charge 20 cedis, let me give you 10 cedis”

At this moment he had began smooching my thighs and I panicked. I told him I came with my boss so I would go ask him if I could take the ten cedis and I left. Then I thought of a plan, why not speak to some of the prostitutes first.

Soon enough there was a pro ready to take me through the rudiments of the game.

She taught me how to keep safe. She said I could get a full pack of condoms for only 3 cedis. I could do a lot of business with this. I also had to make sure that I took my money first, ensure I put the condom on my client myself, and put the money in my bra and hold on to it while serving my customer.

Fully armed with this information I stepped into the game again to make some good money.

Business was booming for me at this time. After rejecting about ten guys in less than 30 minutes I thought I had done enough for the day and was just about leaving at about 46 minutes past 12 midnight, then this man called me. He couldn’t let go of his manhood while telling how sweet he thinks I would be and how he would want to maintain me after tonight. He wanted me to follow him to Adenta for a quick one. His price wasn’t good, ten cedis, so I toyed with him for a while and left. Just then, another  eager man came in wanting to have me for the night.

At the end of my expedition, and after calculating the number of men who came my way with their offers, I could have made 200 Ghana cedis. 200 Ghana cedis in one night! Those who engage in the sex trade must surely have their reasons, greed.

Making not less than one thousand cedis a week or at least 2000 cedis a month is no mean income. What kind of job would fetch them this much? This is the fastest way to make money. How about the men who patronize their services? Taxi drivers form the most part of their clientele. But there are those you would never believe patronize sex. And their reasons vary.

Posing as a prostitute is about the most unthinkable thing I have ever done, but this has made me realize that prostitution is indeed a seeming gold mine.

The story continues in part two.
