2011 movie industry in review

This year was quite a success for the movie industry in Ghana and Nigeria. Many innovations were introduced into the industry.  While many companies paid attention to the sponsorship bits, movie producers started introducing cameo roles into movies. Of such movies were Masquerades, Ties That Bind and Adams Apples.

The producers of the movies also resorted to more movie premiers and in many cases in more than one region. However, the SilverBird Cinemas was one of the favourites.

As a plus, some movie producers were bold enough to put up their movies before an audience to criticize them. Safo and Safo productions; Sons of Satan and AA productions; A Little Affair, were among movie producers who allowed their movies to be criticized before they were released.

In addition movie series were released, with some still running and having captivating themes.  Shirley’s Adams Apples and Kwaw Ansah’s The Good Old Days made this list.

Actors like Prince David Osei, David Dontoh, Vivian Achor, Ken Fiati, Nii Saka Brown, Ken Fiati, Van Vicker, Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola Jalede, Osita Iheme, Ama Abrebrese and many others were privileged to have been featured in international/foreign movie productions. Some of these movies are Dead, Unwanted Guest, Soil, Paparazzi, Ije, Mirror Boy, Sinking Sands, Ties That Bind and Inaley.

All in  all,  good movies  like Anchor  Baby,  Single Six,  Why  Marry, Bed  of  Roses, Why  Marry,  Destiny of  Lesser Animals, Love  for   Rent , What  Sex Can  Do,  Death After Birth , Soil, Familiar Strangers,  Paparazi,  Masquerades,  Adams Apples , The Good Old Days and  many  more were those that made the movie’s tactic year.

It is our hope that the movie industry will continue to flourish to build a solid foundation for generations to come.
