"Afia Schwarzeneggar" dismisses counterfeit version of her show

After being taken off the series Afia Schwarzenegger, Valentina Nana Agyeiwaa, appears to have dismissed the new version of the self-titled show as a fake, comparing the new production with Versace products counterfeitted in China.

Appearing on e.tv Ghana’s Awake morning show, Valentina also disclosed that she is coming up with another TV series with the same brand name “Afia Schwarzenegger”.  She terms the new series as the “original Afia Schwarzenegger”.

The tone of her interview was light-hearted and frivolous and during the course of her conversation with the host, Rashida Nasamu, she gave her reasons for using the same name of the hit TV series being produced by Deloris Frimpong-Manso, alias "Delay". She says she decided to use the brand name because she was born on Friday, which automatically gives her the name Afia by Akan tradition and “my father is a half-cast by the name Schwarzenegger.”

Asked if she was prepared to face any legal suits if there be any from Delay, she said rather sarcastically that, “Legalities involved in using my name for a production? Hello Ghanaians have you come across any Ghanaian with the name Schwarzenegger? So the only person who can have the name is the owner of the name.”

She says the character Afia Schwarznegger was built around her and expressed excitement that another character was going to imitate her in the new series.

“I’m very eager, very excited because now I feel like Oprah Winfrey. I’m going to watch somebody trying to act like me.”

Afia explained her reason for bowing out of the series and debunked rumors that she had problems with the producer.

“I’m not problematic. First and foremost to be a great comedian you must be surrounded with great energy. At some point the energy surrounding Afia Schwarzenegger wasn’t positive. Secondly I had a twenty episode contract with her that was long overdue and I think both parties could not arrive at a mutual agreement.”

She continued that as an actress, she had moved on. “I think they will also try to move on now that I have a carbon copy,” she quipped.

She  is now concentrating on her own TV show Bemankwan which is currently airing on MultiTV.

Talking about her current relationship status, Afia hesitated before revealing that she "...left Akuffo Addo because he wasn’t serious. I am now dating Otumfuor Osei Tutu but physically I’m seriously single.”

She also disclosed that she was yet to release a music single.

Afia, who is known in her private life as Valentina, was recently adjudged the Best Female Comedian at the Kumawood Film Festival and Akoben Movie Awards in Kumasi after receiving four nominations. Appearing on set with the award, she expressed her gratitude to her fans for voting for her, adding that she knew she would pick up the award.
