"Stop bombarding me on the net!" Beverly Afaglo warns rivals
Ghallywood actress Beverly Afaglo last night issued a fierce message to those ‘rivals’ who were intent on rumour-mongering and spreading misinformation on aspects of her personal life. Appearing alongside Prince David Osei on e.tv Ghana’s The Late Nite Celebrity Show, Beverly, in response to a viewer’s question about who she was dating, asked the show’s host Deborah Vanessa to use the moment to set the record straight.
When asked whether she was dating a “certain Ghanaian musician” (a clear allusion to Eugene ‘Praye Honeho’ Baah), she initially responded with a “no comment if I’m dating him or not”.
She then turned the emphasis away from whether she was dating Eugene Baah to the wider issue of online gossiping by people she termed her ‘rivals’. “When I go on the net I see people – I think they are rivals; there not just people who want to talk or say anything bad about my career because they don’t say how bad I act what they [talk about] is who I’m dating.”
She then sought to clarify that she was not older than Eugene and that she had not lied about her age: “Most of the time they say that Eugene is younger than me. If he is younger than me I want to use this platform to say that I don’t think it is wrong to date anyone that is younger than you but the truth here is he is not. Eugene is not a little boy, he’s 29 years old.”
Speaking of her age she denied ever lying that she was 24 years old: “I’ve never said on any platform that I am 24 years. I don’t ever lie about my age. I am 28. Euguene is 29, one year older than me.” She explained that some of the confusion may stem from the fact that “he looks young and probably he’s short. I am tall and I might look a little bit older but I’m not older than him.”
Irrespective, she concluded that even if she were older than him, it would still be her right to choose to date whosoever she wanted: “It’s my choice to date a [young] guy. I don’t know why people keep going on that you’re supposed to date an older guy. You want to date an older guy, it’s your choice. I want to date my age-mate and I’m fine with that so please stop bombarding me on the net, I’m not older than him and it’s my choice to date a young guy.”
Prince David Osei, also on set at the time, added his support, stating “I feel you Beverly” before Deborah Vanessa quipped to her viewers that “she likes them fresh!”
Since issuing that statement, she has received messages of support from her fans with the overriding sentiments being that “it’s high time some people stop poking their noses everywhere”, “Ghana like talking too much” and “don’t mind Ghanaians!”
Rumours concerning Beverly Afaglo being in a relationship with Eugene are nothing new, with photos of the pair appearing online around Christmas last year. Although Beverly left their current relationship status open to question with this latest statement, there is no doubt that she appears to have lost patience with the constant vitriol and scrutiny that her private life is subjected to by certain media outlets and online factions and she hopes that, by speaking directly to those who seek to undermine her, she has put an end to this.
