Jackson’s family pleased with Murray verdict

Michael Jackson’s fans have been cheering and his family members are pleased with the guilty verdict in the pop star’s personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray’s trial.

A panel of seven men and five women took two days of deliberation to reach a verdict on Monday of which they found Murray guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the singer's death.

The "Thriller" singer who had been out of the public eye for several years, died in June 2009 at age 50 when he was preparing for a series of comeback performances at the O2 Arena in London.

His death was due to an overdose of sedatives and the surgical anesthetic propofol, which Murray administered to Jackson as a sleep aid.

The 58-year-old Murray was led away in handcuffs after the Los Angeles jury reached a unanimous guilty verdict, following a six-week trial that captivated Jackson’s fans around the world.

During the trial, 49 witnesses and more than 300 pieces of evidence were presented to the court.

Murray did not testify at the Los Angeles trial and looked impassive, as the guilty verdict was pronounced to a small cry from his side of the packed courtroom.

Jackson's mother Katherine, and the singer's sister, Rebbie, cried silently, as the guilty verdict was read. His siblings La Toya, Jermaine and Randy, and his father Joe, were also on hand. Murray faces up to four years in jail when he is sentenced on the 29th November.
