5th Higher Ghana Education Fair launched

The Fifth Higher Ghana Education Fair has been launched in Accra with a call on government to give the much-needed attention to tertiary education in the country.

The director in charge of tertiary education at the Ministry of Education, Mr Donnan Tay, who made the call, observed that government agrees that education should result in the formation of well-balanced individuals with the requisite knowledge, skills, values, aptitudes and attitudes to become functional and productive citizens.

The 5th education fair is aimed at exposing to prospective students the various educational options available in Ghana, the requirements for admission into accredited educational institutions, the expert training they have to offer and to provide opportunities and create a platform for interaction, thereby making information available and accessible to the Ghanaian student.

This year’s fair will be held at two different locations. The first fair will take place at the Tamale sports stadium from 16th to 18th February, whilst the second will be held at the Takoradi GNAT Hall in the western region from the 1st to the 3rd of March 2012.

The fair is being organised by the I-Texon Ghana in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and other development partners.

According to Mr Tay, statistics show that, there are over 250 higher educational institutions of various descriptions in the country and that the platform of an education fair will help both the institutions and the public by creating the right links between senior high school leavers and their preferred courses in the corresponding institutions.

He, therefore, urged all tertiary institutions and financial aid providers to participate in these fairs each year so that students, teachers, parents and the general public will be well-informed when it comes to the selection of tertiary institutions and programmes.
