University of Ghana to reintroduce 4 years LLB programme

The University of Ghana (UG) will from the next academic year, reintroduce the four year Bachelor of Law (LLB) programme offered by the Faculty of Law as a means of reducing the reduce the number of years required to qualify for a call to the Bar.

Making this known at the graduation of 2,346 students, Vice Chancellor of UG, Professor Ernest Aryeetey noted that current programme had served as a disincentive particularly to female students.

He, therefore, said the reintroduction is also to open up the programme to more young people desirous of pursuing careers in law.

Professor Aryeetey also disclosed that the University would organize a two-day international conference, to discuss how the University could be adequately funded to enable it to offer world-class teaching and learning services to students.

He said the event would be used to raise funds to support the University and to encourage past students to play active part in the development of the educational institution.

Prof. Aryeetey also expressed worry about the current manner in which the University had attracted attention for the wrong reasons, citing the recent students’ demonstration against increase in university fees.

The Vice Chancellor also disclosed that the University will from hence hold graduation ceremonies in July each year for students from the College of Agriculture and Consumer Sciences, Faculties of Engineering Sciences, Law and Science, Business School and postgraduate students from all the faculties.
