Senior High School admissions finally out

One hundred and seventy six thousand, two hundred and eighty eight candidates, who sat for the 2011 Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE), have gained admissions into their respective Senior High Schools (SHS).

The figure which represents about 47 per cent of the 375, 280 candidates who sat for this year’s BECE implies that over 53 per cent of the candidates failed to meet the criteria for placemen under the Computerised School Selection and Placement (CSSP).

For Wesley Girls Senior High School, Cape Coast, 12, 400 qualified students applied but only 300 students were given admission using their raw scores.  Last year, 172, 359 out of 350, 888 candidates who wrote the BECE qualified for placement into SHSs and Technical Institutions.

The figure represented about 49 per cent of the number of candidates who sat for the examinations.

The Ghana Education Service said it had placed all the qualified candidates, in addition to those 30 per cent candidates from the catchment areas of the schools.  Subsequently, about 19, 500 interested candidates, according to the GES, beat the deadline for submission of completed forms for the catchment area, whilst the CSSPS secretariat is still receiving completed forms from the regions, long after the deadline.
