Develop gas infrastructure to produce geothermal energy

Government has been urged to hasten the pace of work on infrastructure, to develop the country’s natural gas. An economist, Dr. Joe Abbey says this will generate revenue for the country, thus reducing dependence on the national electricity grid.
Access to reliable power supply is a major challenge in the country. Whereas companies operating in the country complain inconsistent power supply disrupts their operations, many also cry out about destruction of their property by power outages in the country.
But experts say, if the country’s natural gas infrastructure is developed, this can help minimize these problems.
Developing the gas production sector, will also lead to creation of jobs, for the unemployed in the country.
Ghana will also benefit in terms of revenue, if strategies tabled to improve the gas exploration, are implemented.
Using energy from natural gas can also help protect the country against volatile electricity prices.
For this potential to be fully utilized, the emerging industry should be fully integrated into the local economy.
