"Increasing fuel prices was the most painful exercise..."-President Mills
President John Evans Atta Mills has described the recent increment in fuel prices as the “most painful exercise we had to undertake”.
At the latter part of the year 2011, the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) announced a 15 to 20 per cent increase in petroleum products. The increment was met with resentment from a section of the public.
The President who was speaking to a section of journalists and editors at the Castle, Osu on Monday said government had “no choice” but to increase petroleum prices as crude oil prices on the world market had gone up.
“We didn’t have a choice because the amount of subsidy and the current price of oil; more than 100 dollars and other consideration gave us no alternative.”
He was, however, optimistic that the price of petroleum prices will go down drastically. “A time will come when prices will come down dramatically to relieve Ghanaians,” he assured.
