Ghana accrued over 400 million dollars from oil export - President Mills

oilAccra, Feb. 17, 2012

President John Evans Atta Mills says the nation accrued a total of over four hundred million dollars from the sale of the country’s black gold; oil.

This, according to him, was from the group lifting of over three million barrels of crude oil produced in Ghana.

Addressing the nation in parliament on Thursday, President Mills said his Government will continue to make full public disclosure of all oil lifting and revenues accrued from on-going oil and gas exploration.

He noted that the appointment and inauguration of the Public Interest Committee demonstrates Government’s intention to enhance transparency and accountability.

“Once again, this Government has demonstrated its commitment to a Ghana-first approach to the handling of national affairs wherever the national interest can better be served that way,” he said.

Prof. Atta Mills said some challenges in production at the Jubilee Oil Field had been scaled down, pending the completion of a remedial programme.

He noted that Ghana National Gas Company Limited (Ghana Gas) which was charged with the responsibility to build, own and operate infrastructure required for gathering, processing, transporting and marketing of natural gas resources in the country has commenced with the development of gas infrastructure.

The completion of the project is expected to stimulate diversification of the national economy.

Government, he said, will not relent in its efforts to combat corruption in the country.
